Here is what you need to get started:

Step 1

Share a copy of your ADHD report with us (if you have had your assessment with NeuroDiverse Online, you will not need to do this.

Step 2

Have a cardiovascular screen at your NHS GP practice (this involves a medical professional listening to your heart and lungs, checking your blood pressure, pulse, height and weight. You do not need an ECG unless any of the following apply:

    • History of congenital heart disease or previous cardiac surgery
    • History of sudden death in a first-degree relative under 40 years suggesting a cardiac disease
    • Shortness of breath on exertion compared with peers
    • Fainting on exertion or in response to fright or noise
    • Palpitations that are rapid, regular and start and stop suddenly (fleeting occasional bumps are usually ectopic and do not need investigation)
    • Chest pain suggesting cardiac origin
    • Signs of heart failure
    • A murmur heard on cardiac examination
    • Blood pressure that is classified as hypertensive
Step 3

Obtain a copy of your Patient Summary Care record. Your GP surgery reception should be able to print a copy of this for you.

If your GP surgery is unable to carry out the cardiovascular screen, then you would need to arrange this via a Private GP service. Details of these can be found by searching for local Private GPs in your area on the Internet.

Once we have the above information, you can book an initial ADHD medication consultation. Please contact us to arrange this.

You may have heard about the ADHD medication Shared Care Pathway. This is when your GP agrees to prescribe and monitor your ADHD medication. You will still require an annual review with our ADHD Pharmacist Prescriber, which you would pay for yourself.

To increase your chances of being accepted for Shared Care you should:

  • Have shared, or allowed us to share, your ADHD diagnostic report with your GP
  • Be stable on ADHD medication for at least three months
  • Have the agreement from our ADHD Pharmacist Prescriber that they are happy to support Shared Care
  • Ensure your GP is willing to take on your Shared Care and prescribing your medication*
  • Be on medication that is within NHS prescribing guidelines

*Some GPs will not accept private assessment reports as a diagnosis of ADHD. Please check with your GP to see what their policy is.

You may need further review appointments in your first year whilst you and Claire are finding the right medication and dose for you.

Once you have been stable on medication for 3 months, Claire can apply for your GP to take over prescribing (this is known as Shared Care) and private prescriptions may no longer be necessary.
